Fire & Smoke Restoration Technician (FSRT)

The FSRT certification prepares you to scope, document, clean, and deodorize residential and commercial fire and smoke losses with confidence.

You’ll learn:

  • How organic vs. inorganic materials impact cleanup difficulty

  • Proper scoping and documentation procedures

  • Insurance coverages and working with adjusters

  • Subrogation and spoliation considerations

  • Contents cleaning (furniture, electronics, documents, books)

  • Surface preparation and finishing

  • Jobsite safety protocols

Upon completion, you’ll be prepared to perform and properly document fire and smoke restoration projects — a critical step in protecting your business and serving clients professionally.

Required for: Master Fire and Smoke Restorer designation.

Odor Control Technician (OCT)

Fire jobs almost always involve odor. But smoke isn’t the only challenge restoration professionals face.

The OCT certification focuses on identifying, diagnosing, and permanently eliminating a wide range of odor problems — including:

  • Smoke (fire & cigarette)

  • Water damage

  • Pet contamination

  • Cooking odors

  • Skunk

  • Dead animal

  • Bacterial odors

You’ll learn:

  • How olfaction works and why odors persist

  • Proper odor detection and source identification

  • Handling light, moderate, and heavy odor situations

  • Chemical options and equipment selection

  • Proven deodorization procedures

  • How to guarantee pet odor removal

  • How to estimate profitably

  • Sales and marketing strategies for odor services

This training equips you with both the science and the strategy behind successful odor remediation.

Why Take the Combo Course?

Taking FSRT and OCT together allows you to:

  • Understand the full lifecycle of a fire loss
  • Confidently handle both structural damage and lingering odors
  • Increase job profitability with better estimating
  • Reduce callbacks due to incomplete deodorization
  • Expand your service offering immediately

Fire restoration without odor expertise is incomplete. Odor control without proper fire knowledge is risky.

This combo ensures you’re prepared for both.
