OCT Class Overview

The Odor Control Technician (OCT) certification covers olfaction and odor, odor sources, detection process, theory of odor control, equipment, chemical options, and applications.

Upon achieving the certification, you demonstrate how to address odors caused by biological sources such as decomposition, urine contamination, mold, combustion sources such as fire and smoke damage, and chemical sources such as fuel oil spills or volatile organic chemicals.

Ideal for: Technicians, business owners and managers, contractors, and property managers.

Class Schedule - Zoom / Live Stream

The following schedule applies to all days of training.

  • 8:00 AM - check-in
  • Class begins 30 min after check-in
  • 5:00 PM - class ends

This is a Live Stream / Online training. Each student is required to have their own computer with a web cam and audio connection. Students are expected to be on camera and fully engaged in class each day.

Zoom/Class Login information will be sent via email approximately 48 hours before class begins.

After enrolling you will receive detailed instructions to prepare for the class including access to the class modules that need to be printed prior to class.

Thomas Cermak

Thomas Cermak has been in the cleaning and restoration industry for over 4 decades. Thomas has always had a place in his heart for those in the industry who want to learn and has also owned and operated several successful carpet cleaning and restoration firms. Thomas started mentoring other startup companies and often donates his time, knowledge and even supplies to help anyone who asks.

He is a certified carpet inspector and hard surface inspector and currently one of only 2 instructors in the world able to teach all 5 disciplines necessary to achieve Master Textile status!

IICRC Certification

To earn IICRC certification, students must pass the certification exam and pay the exam fee directly to the IICRC. Exam registration is completed through iicrc.org.

Students must register online and submit the exam fee prior to or on the first day of class. Please keep a copy of your payment confirmation or have the means to log in at the end of the scheduled class to report to the instructor once exam registration is complete. You will need to provide proof of registration to complete the exam on the last day of training. Please contact the IICRC with any questions regarding this process.
